01 / HOW IT WORKS

How to use this pixel area converter

Pixel area needs two dimensions. The calculator first converts the width and height from pixels to centimeters using your DPI, then multiplies those physical dimensions to get square centimeters.

A 1920 × 1080 image at 96 DPI measures 50.8 × 28.575 cm, giving an area of 1,451.61 cm². At 300 DPI, the same pixels cover a much smaller physical area because they are packed more densely.

02 / FORMULA

The conversion formula

cm² = (width px × 2.54 ÷ DPI) × (height px × 2.54 ÷ DPI)

1

Choose the DPI that describes how many pixels fit in one inch.

2

Divide the pixel measurement by DPI to convert pixels to inches.

3

Multiply inches by exactly 2.54 to get centimeters.

Pixel to Square CM Questions

How do I convert pixels to square centimeters?
Convert the pixel width and height to centimeters separately, then multiply them. At one shared DPI, the formula is cm² = width px × height px × (2.54 ÷ DPI)².
Can one pixel value be converted directly to cm²?
A single linear pixel value does not describe an area. You need both width and height, or a total pixel area expressed in px², plus the DPI.
Why does DPI change the square-centimeter result?
DPI controls how tightly pixels are packed. Doubling DPI halves each physical dimension, so the physical area becomes one quarter as large.
